My name is Marie Cheek and I started Caricature Artists Group in 1994 to fill a need for caricature and art entertainment services in the Washington, DC metro area. I started out as a fine artist and illustrator, but painting can be a very difficult way to make a living. So after spending nearly 20 years doing illustration and production work, I began drawing caricatures in 1991 in response to an ad in the Washington Post. I found out that I could draw every day, make people happy, and even pay my bills. It was great! Since there is a lot of entertainment work in the Washington, DC area, I began hiring other very talented artists that I had worked with to help me serve all of our clients. I know every artist that goes out on every job. We have worked together for years, and many of them I have trained. I know who to send to a large company that needs fast, accurate sketches, and who to send to a little girl's birthday party.
Caricature Artists Group provides caricature artists, face painters, silhouette artists (cut the old-fashioned way--with scissors), and balloon artists. Every entertainer we work with is an artist. Our services are available for conventions and trade shows, and also corporate events, high school graduation parties, and anything else you can imagine. One of the really great things about us is that we are all professional artists AND entertainers. All of the artists who work with CAG are happy to have large crowds watch them work. Would you like to have 50 people looking over your shoulder while you draw someone's picture? We love it! We are never afraid of a long line--in fact, our day goes much faster when we have lots and lots of people to draw. Seeing thousands of people at a convention makes us want to set up our easels and get busy drawing! We can even carry on a conversation with the subjects while we draw--it sets them at ease.
We really do "draw a crowd"! You'll find that your booth manned by one or more of our talented artists will be the busiest and happiest booth at your show or convention. People will get to take home a clever drawing or silhouette of themselves. Your booth will be the biggest people magnet at the show.
